In for a penny..... Empty In for a penny.....

Post by Sarah Lewis Wed Nov 06, 2013 1:24 am

I have posted this photo because I would like some help with the 'photoshop' side.  I don't really know how to use photoshop yet so would really like some suggestions of how others would treat this photo ...if at all (it's not RAW).
Thank you!

Hi Sarah,
I have just been looking at your Flickr site and your pictures are great, you would put a lot of people to shame especially if they are straight out of the camera.
If you cant get used to Photoshop, try Lightroom 4 or 5.
I use lightroom for most of my editing, it is simple to use for most applications.

Hi Sarah, I agree with Dave. That is a great picture doesn't look as though it needs much processing to me!

Hi Sarah,
Glad you have submitted an image. I am away, with only a tablet so I won't comment too much but this shot is a great example of what Kevin was saying about exposure problems with burnt out highlights and solid black shadows. Raise practical post processing on Monday. Jen has raised it in another thread. Whilst Gareth Jenkins did a great demo, it feels like you guys need hands on practicals.

Some stunning photos, I love the underwater shots. As a Diver myself, I know just the business of maintaining concentration on dive matters (depth, buoyancy, remaining dive time , navigation, what the dive buddy is doing etc. etc.) means that photography is that much harder, but the results speak for themselves.

I was very impressed as others have said stunning photos. I do think you could bring out more detail in the building not lit and also part that is lit is over exposed but although it can be done not sure if it would in doing so remove the overall effect?

I think it would be a great subject for beginners group to take a image like that one and not only process it but discuss if it improves it or not.

Thanks very much for the comments. I think that post processing lessons will be very popular!

I'd love a housing for my DSLR Harvey but just can't justify it for the amount of diving I do!!
Some photos have been manipulated Dave, but just with a free download that I found on the internet. I look forward to learning more about Photoshop (or Lightroom) over the next few months.
